Description of the Fax Friend

The Fax Friend is a two-port switch. Connected to a single incoming telephone line it provides two ports (standard BT sockets) which can be used for a telephone and/or answering machine on port 1, with a fax machine or fax modem on port 2. It can be connected to the master socket or to an extension socket.

The default configuration will suit most installations, however 4 DIP switches provide customisation of ring delay etc. the Fax Friend will recognise incoming fax calls and divert them to the fax machine. This will happen whether you answer a call manually or the answerphone takes the call.

If you do not answer manually and the answerphone does not answer, the Fax Friend will route the call automatically to the fax machine after 4, 8 or 12 rings or never (programmable via the DIP switches).

Silent fax calls can be manually routed to the fax machine by dialling a 2-digit code.

When a voice caller wishes to send a fax later in the conversation, the call can be manually routed to the fax machine by dialling the 2-digit code.

Fax Friend International

Fax Friend International (FFI) is a Fax friend with RJ11 connectors plus optional adapters which allow it to be used in various countries and with phone/fax equipment from various other countries of origin. It is available with a choice of power packs, UK 3-pin or Euro 2-pin. There is even a choice of language for the instruction leaflet, currently just English, French and Italian.

The Fax Friend International package contents shown with optional adapters for use in Italy and with Italian sourced phone and fax.

Countries for which the Fax Friend International may be specified include France, Ireland, Spain and Switzerland. The range of countries will be extended according to demand.

Requirements and Recommendations

• Standard BT phone socket on an analogue line, or the filtered 'phone socket on an ADSL line, or various international phone sockets for FFI;
• Standard UK-type 13A mains power socket (or Euro 2-pin for FFI);
• Recommended for use in the United Kingdom (and various other countries for FFI) however only limited support can be provided for users outside the UK.

Important warranty information.

• Like all telephone equipment connected to a landline, this product may be damaged by voltage surges during thunderstorms. Such damage is not covered by the warranty.
