Description of the BT TwinTalk Call Sign switches

If you subscribe to BT's Call Sign distinctive ringing service then the BT TwinTalk Call Sign switches may be for you! Each one can respond to either normal or distinctive ringing and ring the attached device, or not, depending upon which number the caller dialled. The BT TwinTalk starter pack includes two TwinTalk units and full instructions. Each unit is switchable to respond to the normal number or the Call Sign number.

Each switch can be connected to a telephone, fax, modem, answering machine or other device. So, for example, you could use your two numbers to separate phone and fax, business and home, sales department and accounts department etc.

You can have more than two TwinTalk units. Just buy a single TwinTalk Additional Unit or buy another starter pack to have two more units. Remember, each TwinTalk can be set to respond to either the normal number or the Call Sign number.

An important feature of the TwinTalk system is GuardCall or "barge-in protection": no other party connected via a TwinTalk can interrupt or listen-in to a call in progress.

Calls can be transferred between phones attached to TwinTalk units. Simply replace the handset on one phone and pick up the other.

The TwinTalks can be set to operate as a "Mini Business System". This means that, if the phone for the number dialled is not answered, the phone on the other TwinTalk will start to ring.

A comprehensive User Guide is supplied with the starter pack. It includes set-up instructions and a trouble-shooting section.

Requirements and Recommendations

You will need the following to be able to use BT TwinTalk:

• Standard BT phone socket(s) on an analogue line or an ADSL line with microfilter - but see our page on ADSL Issues (opens in new window).
• You must subscribe to BT's Call Sign service. This is available for most UK subscribers for a small quarterly charge. TwinTalk claims it will only work with the BT service, not with other telcos' distinctive ringing.
• Recommended for use in the United Kingdom (not supported outside the UK).

Important warranty information.

• Like all telephone equipment connected to a landline, this product may be damaged by voltage surges during thunderstorms. Such damage is not covered by the warranty.
